Accuracy of Labels on Energy Drinks
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
This study investigates the accuracy of labels on energy drinks, focusing on the nutritional content and ingredient claims made by manufacturers. With the growing popularity of energy drinks, concerns regarding misleading or inaccurate labeling have emerged, potentially leading to health risks for consumers. Through a comprehensive analysis using Ultra Violet Spectroscopy, a range of energy drink products available in the market were analyzed, We compared the information provided on product labels (e.g., caffeine content) with laboratory analyses. Our findings indicate significant discrepancies in several products, with some labels overstating or understating key components. The study highlights the importance of regulatory oversight to ensure transparency and protect consumer health. Additionally, it discusses the implications of these inaccuracies for public health and proposes recommendations for more stringent labeling standards in the energy drink industry.

Beyond the Game: The Impact of Music on Athletes’ Mental Focus and Attitude in Competition
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
Anxiety is a prevalent issue among athletes, among other feelings, particularly at the collegiate level, where it can negatively impact performance, focus, and emotional control. Recent research has explored various interventions to reduce pregame anxiety, with music emerging as a potential solution. Music has long been recognized for its psychological and physiological benefits, including stress reduction, mood enhancement, and focus improvement. This study reviews existing literature on the use of music to mitigate performance anxiety in athletes, focusing on its role in enhancing psychological resilience, physical performance, athletes' attitudes, and motivation. Research has shown that music, both lyrical and instrumental, can help athletes enter a calm, focused state of mind, though its effectiveness can vary based on genre, individual preferences, and sport-specific contexts. Studies have also highlighted that motivational and relaxing music types tend to be the most effective in reducing anxiety and improving performance. However, findings on the general impact of music remain mixed, with some research indicating no significant effects. This review aims to provide insights into how music can be utilized as an intervention to reduce athletic anxiety and improve performance, suggesting that more tailored approaches are necessary for maximizing its benefits.

Concentration of Caffeine in Caffeine Pills
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
Caffeine is a stimulant drug that makes us feel more awake. Caffeine is found in most medications, including weight loss pills, cold and flu remedies, and pain medications. With evidence of mislabeled pill bottles, the question arises as to whether manufacturing companies match the amounts of caffeine in each pill to the labels on the bottles. Using UV-Vis spectroscopy, four samples were tested to determine the concentration of caffeine in each pill. The concentrations measured by UV-Vis revealed higher levels of caffeine in each pill than expected. The results indicated mislabeling on the pill bottles.

Factors that affect NFL Team Valuations
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
This study examines the factors influencing financial outcome through a regression analysis of 32 observations, using Super Bowl wins, revenue, debt as a percentage of value, and winning percentage as predictors. The results indicate that Super Bowl wins and revenue are statistically significant, with each additional Super Bowl win and dollar in revenue positively associated with an increase in the financial outcome. In contrast, debt as a percentage of value and winning percentage were not significant predictors.? The model explains 68% of the variance in the dependent variable (R-squared = 0.68), highlighting the impact of championship success and revenue generation on financial performance. ? These findings suggest that sports organizations should prioritize factors such as winning and revenue growth to enhance financial success, while further research is needed to explore the role of debt and on-field performance over time.

Isoprene contribution to photochemical smog formation in urban environments
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
Photochemical smog is a type of air pollution characterized by the presence of ozone and nitrogen dioxide. Photochemical smog can cause several respiratory issues in humans, animals and plants due to the presence of ozone causing irritation of airways. Ozone and nitrogen oxide present in the atmosphere are a result of a series of chemical reactions between volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The photochemical smog formation is triggered by an initial reaction between hydroxyl radical and a volatile organic compound. A common VOC that produces photochemical smog is isoprene. Isoprene has a significant role in the formation of ground-level ozone through its reaction with hydroxyl radicals. Isoprene is released into the atmosphere from artificial sources (rubber refining waste) and natural sources (Big trees). This study seeks to understand the chemical mechanisms of photochemical smog formation in order to develop strategies to regulate adverse effects of photochemical smog in urban environments.

Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
Overall, the model proved to be significant, using the F-Score, with some variables definitely impacting the effect on driver’s salaries. Championships and pole positions were the key influencers in this correlation (0.778) which both proved to be significant using a T-test, whereas surprisingly age, podiums, and fastest laps proved to be insignificant, even though these are crucial aspects in the sport. Despite this, the regression calculation did prove somewhat useful with some insight on what affects salaries, maybe next time it would be a good idea to add more variables and maybe more accurate data.

The Impact of Climate Change on Migratory Bird Patterns and Survival in the Midwest
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
Changing migration timing, routes, and resource availability, migratory bird populations are significantly affected by climate change. This study focuses on the implications of these environmental changes for bird species in the Midwest specifically at Big G Lake in Decatur County, Iowa. Bird counts were collected from data over the months, weather conditions, and periods of the day to show patterns of migration and its survival methods. Results indicate that modifications in climate, habitat suitability, and food availability could encourage migration behavior with an ultimate effect on their distribution and survivability in regions outside their native infection range. These results underscore the importance of continued monitoring and conservation efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change on migratory bird populations.

AI-Powered Pet Adoption: A .NET MAUI-Based Platform to Help Pets Find Homes
Thursday April 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm CDT
Animal shelters often struggle to match pets with loving homes, recruit volunteers, and secure critical funding. Traditional platforms rely on static pet profiles that fail to capture an animal’s personality, disengaging potential supporters. In response, this research project introduces a cross platform mobile application built with .NET MAUI that harnesses artificial intelligence to deliver personalized pet recommendations while seamlessly connecting users to donation and volunteer opportunities.

The Revival of St. James Infirmary Blues
Thursday April 10, 2025 1:00pm - 1:30pm CDT
This project focuses on the arrangement and reinterpretation of St. James Infirmary Blues, standard of both jazz and blues repertoire, through a comparative performance and discussion. Using a basic arrangement from The Real Easy Book as a foundation, I have modified and enhanced the piece to create the “Holladay Version,” refining its musical structure and stylistic expression. By listening to various interpretations of the song and using them as a foundation for my version based on how others perform it, I have shaped a unique arrangement that both honors tradition and introduces fresh elements. In this presentation, I will lead a performance featuring both the original Real Easy Book arrangement and the newly developed “Holladay Version,” analyzing the creative process, musical decisions, and the influence of different performances. This project aims to demonstrate the continuous evolution of music through personal interpretation and innovation.

Italian Opera and its Influence on You Musicians
Thursday April 10, 2025 1:30pm - 2:00pm CDT
Italian opera is certainly not the center of the overall art of Opera however, for many young musicians it is the gateway to a larger worldview of storytelling. As musicians in the arts, the main goal every artist pursues is to tell a story. In this presentation I will cover how Italian opera came to be, its history, notable composers, historic venues, singers and most importantly why Italian opera specifically is important to the music world today. How this genre impacts young singers, people currently working in the field, and how a lot of young musicians make it, and what they specifically study to be competent in this. My own personal experience abroad giving me an up-close look into Italian culture, and much of what goes into professional productions and concerts, coaching from experts in Italian language and opera pedagogy has given me much insight into this world. This presentation, through encompassing the history of opera's roots, to how these roots are still so influential to young singers today directly pertains to the interdisciplinary degree in music and social sciences I am pursuing at Graceland University.

The Impact of Relaxed Working Environments on Employee Productivity: Balancing Comfort and Performance
Thursday April 10, 2025 1:30pm - 2:00pm CDT
Many businesses have started taking new approaches to increasing their overall performance, and one area of emphasis right now is the treatment of employees. The job market can be very competitive for workers, but employers also need to differentiate themselves in order to attract quality candidates. Many of these employers are now asking what employees want to see from them. The research problem in this study concerns the impact a relaxed work environment has on a company's measurable productivity. All employees want to enjoy the work they do and the environment they can do it in. An internal factor that companies need to consider is the experiences of their employees and whether changing some of the traditional day-to-day expectations they set on their employees can actually lead to greater reward for the company.

Understanding Your Resources: As First And Second Generation College Students At Graceland University
Thursday April 10, 2025 2:00pm - 2:30pm CDT
Participants in the present study were subjects attending a small midwestern university who were either first-generation or second-generation college students with some being members of the TRIO support program and others not being members. The participants in the current study were invited to participate in a survey that would ask if they utilized the resources provided to them while at Graceland University. Prior to the administering the survey subjects were informed of the condition of the survey and signed a consent form. Materials The Utah State University Trio Support Services Survey (2022-23) was the instrument used to access knowledge and attitude about the TRIO program at Graceland University. Materials in addition to demographic items, the survey included multiple opened questions about their knowledge of, and use of, TRIO resources. Used in the study is a survey that is seeking to measure if first-generation students utilize the resources provided or even know what they are. For second-generation students we are trying to measure to see if they utilize the same resources as having been born in a family where one of their parents attended college and finished schooling. The participants answered these survey questions based on if they used it often ranging from zero to twenty or weekly to once a semester.

No Street Lights & a Dream: Graceland takes on the World's Largest Sales Competition
Thursday April 10, 2025 2:30pm - 3:00pm CDT
Ivan and Joseph tell their story from the National Collegiate Sales Competition 2025. In March, Graceland’s two representatives, being the smallest school at the event, gave it their all to sell Gartner products to C-Suite executives of 9-figure revenue companies over a series of role-play competitive rounds. The pair were facing the best of the best from collegiate competitors from across the globe, pitted against schools such as Texas A&M, Baylor, University of Houston, our local rival Iowa State, as well as Dutch university HAN Bedrijfskunde, and Canadian representative Toronto Metropolitan University. The presentation will encompass a brief introduction to the competition and its history, their preparation for the event, how it unfolded, and what they learned. This will be an underdog story, intending on providing value to students who are thinking of applying for next year’s event, are interested in sales, or want to learn how to get a leg up in a competitive hiring market.

What Social and Cognitive Factors Play a Role for People Who Believe in Conspiracy Theories?”
Thursday April 10, 2025 2:30pm - 3:00pm CDT
Conspiracy theories and conspiratorial thinking can seem to be universal because this specific type of thinking is found across particular cultures and time periods. But there have been major events in recent history that inspire a wider array of people to theorize the events as conspiracy when they cannot locate an easily understandable explanation, especially when it comes to explaining political events and societal phenomena. This study attempted to investigate what social and cognitive factors play a role in people adopting conspiracy theories as explanations to events. More than 30 adults volunteered to take part in this study. The study obtained a convenience sample that included 35 participants who were predominantly students, faculty and staff at our university, ranging in age from 18 - 40 years. Two key articles, “Need For Closure” by Webster and Kruglanski (1994) and “Generic Conspiracist Belief Scale” by Brotherton and French (2014) were the instruments used to assess participants’ cognitive factors impacting their belief in conspiracy theories. The combined surveys contained 56 items. Participants were invited to participate in this study. The participants were adults ranging in age from 18-40 years. In this study the number of the participants identifying as male were 13 subjects and 21 female subjects and 1 nonbinary subject.
